Ivan Loyola is a wine consultant with an advanced certificate from the prestigious Wine and Spirits Education Trust. His previous career took him to the Bering Sea as a marine biologist and the Amazon in search of native palm trees. However, he realized wine was his real interest after working as a labourer in a vineyard in the Gulf Islands in the early 2000´s. Later he combined his interest for wine with his writing talent and working as a wine sales consultant he started writing about wines and appellations, giving talks and conducting wine and food pairings. He sat as cellar master for the South World Wine Society and keeps a popular wine blog, in which he combines his wine-geek attention to detail with his narrative inclinations. A native of Lima, Peru, he immigrated to Vancouver BC in 1993. Once there he realized there were a lot more products than the Argentinean, Chilean and Spanish wines he knew back home. In wine terms, he never looked back.
